The Garden: Part 1 of 5
Of all the biblical instruction for women that is nearly lost today, none is more central than that of being in the home. God made the home for women. It is a special gift to us, given by God to provide fulfillment and rest.
I have a friend who was a dental hygienist for many years. When women would come in, she could tell from their mouth and countenance which were ‘stay at home mothers’ and which worked full time. She said that the women at home were in better health than the working women. I know all women take good care of themselves, yet in this example we see the outcome of not being in the home. Most women I talk to who work full or part time jobs are so stressed out. They have a desire to be at home (and I believe it’s a desire God put there).
Let’s look at the beginning of Scripture. God made Adam, then the Home (a garden in Eden) and later Eve. God made the home before Eve. (Genesis 2:7-8, 22) He started creation this way and it flows throughout Scripture. He knew Adam could live without the home but that woman would desire and need a home for rest and fulfillment. My sweet husband would not mind living in a tent like Abraham or a R.V. trailer and just travel around. He would find complete contentment without a home. I myself am not to that point. I like painting the walls and decorating. We have a lot of people over so I like to make our house feel ‘cozy’ and ‘homey’ for our guest.
God planned this from the beginning. He made man to be content without the need to decorate walls, and rearrange a living room. I can just see Adam and Eve in the garden and Eve placing beautiful pink and purple flowers in a resting area or dark and light purple flowers in the ‘love making’ area (or whatever) and Adam thinking, “Wow! My wife loves her home.’
P.S. Just yesterday, a friend came over to watch me make home made cereal while we chatted about how to make nutritious foods and how to discipline our children when they lie. It was a wonderful time spent making food, and ministering to each other while the kids hung out. The home is not a lesser calling like our society would perceive it. Look into God’s word for your authority.
